Tennessee Aquarium
The Tennessee Aquarium or more popularly known as the Chattanooga Aquarium because it is located in downtown Chattanooga TN is one of our favorite attractions in the city. It is not only an excellent place for the young ones but also the young at hearts. There are just so many things to do in this wonderful place with your whole family.
Chattanooga Aquarium Logistics
The aquarium is open from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. They have a pretty flexible ticket system which allows visitors to re-enter within the day, make sure that you have your ticket with you. Also, children below three years old are free of charge for the exhibits as well as the IMAX theater. They only need a ticket if they explore the River Gorge Explorer ride.
Aquarium Campus
The aquarium is not a single destination because the attractions and exhibits are located in different buildings. You should buy your tickets at the ticket center and begin an enjoyable day by exploring the following attractions:
The River Journey Building
There are two main buildings in the Chattanooga Aquarium. The first one is the River Journey. It has different exhibits that focus on freshwater animals from the mountains of Tennessee to the Gulf of Mexico.
Rivers of the World GalleryIt is one of the exhibits in the building of River Journey that features creatures from all over the world, such as a wonderful diversity of turtles.
River Giants ExhibitIt is considered one of the most popular attractions in River Journey. The National Geographic show inspires the River Giants exhibit.
Seahorse: Beyond ImaginationThere is also a gallery in the River Journeys that houses an exhibit of beautiful species of seahorses.

The Ocean Journey Building at the Chattanooga Aquarium
It is the other main building aside from the River Journeys. Ocean Journey mainly houses ocean habitats exhibits. The following are some of the favorites in this building:
Penguins' Rock
There is a wonderful penguin display in the Chattanooga Aquarium which exhibits cold water where penguins swim in. You can watch the adorable penguins as they swim back and forth the chilly water.
Jellies: Living Art
The aquarium features an impressive display of the different creatures in the ocean made of glass. The gorgeous exhibit is a join force project of the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum of American Art.
Butterfly Garden
The aquarium also has something for the butterfly lovers. The Butterfly Garden is a sweet escape from the numerous water exhibits in the aquarium. If you are lucky enough, a butterfly can even land on your shoulder.
IMAX at the Aquarium in Chattanooga
The IMAX theater in the Tennessee Aquarium is just a few walks away from the buildings of River and Ocean Journeys. You should buy a separate ticket to get in the theater. You can also go any time and watch whatever movie you like, and you don't have to wait for a specific schedule to see one, which is amazing!
